Under The Covers
This is a week of dedications.
For Marla, it's Chapterhouse. AYF? already mentioned these guys in the shoegaze retrospective, but there are a few obscure gems I've been asked to post. Two covers, specifically -- the first a cover of The Beatles' "Rain," and the second of Spacemen 3's "Losing Touch With My Mind." Both songs are excellent renditions, and demonstrate Chaperhouse's ability to switch things up, stylistically, while retaining their own aural identity.
I'm throwing in their demo of Kane, because it's just a great song.
Chapterhouse - Rain (Beatles cover)

Someone very close to me almost died last night. She is in hospital and she's gonna be fine -- this song is for her.
The Futureheads have proven themselves as the clear leaders in the densely populated post-punk genre with their latest album, News And Tributes. While I've always been a fan, the song-writing and technical skill they're exhibiting these days has pushed them well into the AYF? radar. One of the best albums this year.
The Futureheads - Burnt

This is for Corrie. It also happens to be one of my favorite songs of the moment. The Legends have been mentioned on AYF? frequently; a full post will happen soon.
The Legends - The Kids Just Wanna Have Fun

Monday June 5th, MAN MAN (http://www.myspace.com/wearemanman) and The Ghost Is Dancing (http://www.myspace.com/theghostisdancing) will be playing at The Silver Dollar. I will be DJing. This is a show I am doing along with Craig Laskey of ATG, and based on ticket sales so far, it'll be a busy one. Celebrate the start of NxNE week or something like that. Heh. Tickets are available at Rotate and Soundscapes or Ticketmaster..
Friday June 9th, THE PAPER CRANES (http://www.myspace.com/thepapercranes), and THE DIABLEROS (http://www.myspace.com/thediableros) will be playing along with Jewish Legend and Andrew Rodriguez at Sneaky Dee's. This is a label showcase for Baudelaire (Even Newman) and Unfamiliar Records (my own label, home to The Paper Cranes). It is NOT NxNE affiliated. Tickets are at Rotate or on Ticketweb.
Saturday June 10th, I am DJing at a Vice party. I agreed to do this because the person setting it up (Nina from Vice in Montreal) is really nice. The details are below. It's free, and it's bound to be nuts -- punky bands, and loud music from me. It's a cool venue, and the bands are good.

Have you heard the Thom Yorke solo album yet? It's great.
